Philanthropy is a large part of the Phenomenex culture. Every year we enjoy pulling an April Fool’s prank on our customers to not only get a laugh but to raise money for an amazing cause. This year was for the Pediatric Therapy Network.
Last year, we created the LabWOW™, a magical rag that could clean up and wipe away all your problems! A portion of our sales during the time went to sponsoring the wish of Charley, a 7-year-old boy with a rare strain of leukemia. We were honored to help grant his wish with Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles, for him to be a paleontologist for a day. To read his whole story, click here.
This year, we brought to life a new way to ship our customers their orders—DRONES! A service that could get you your column order in 30 minutes or less, no matter where you were! However, the condition of your order could be a little questionable.
Our drone prank raised a considerable amount that we were able to donate to a local non-profit that is doing amazing work for children with special needs. The Pediatric Therapy Network (PTN) was founded in 1996 by a handful of therapists, parents, and volunteers who envisioned an organization that would provide children in the community with high quality therapy, research, and education.
Even though they started off small and with not very much, PTN grew at a rapid pace to become an organization that has served thousands of children in the classrooms of hundreds of Los Angeles County schools and at their state-of-the-art clinics in Torrance and Long Beach.
PTN provides a variety of programs and services such as physical therapy to help a child take their first step, speech therapy to aid a child in the development of language skills to communicate, and occupational therapy to help a child develop self-feeding skills and fine motor skills.
PTN provides over 150,000 hours of therapeutic intervention each year and is currently the largest pediatric facility of its kind in the United States.
They are currently excited for the expansion of their feeding therapy program, with the addition of a bigger space and aid. Many families just wish to go out and eat with their children, and PTN is there to help give the child guidance and the skills they need to do that.
Amazing stories come out of PTN every day, especially during their annual Camp Escapades, an innovative two-week summer day camp for children with special needs and developmental delays ranging from ages 5 to 14 years old.
PTN and Camp Escapades gives children with special needs the outlet and learning experiences they need. Parents start to see a real difference in their child, much like Kyleigh’s parents.
“Nothing pleases us more than to see Kyleigha want to go back [to Camp Escapades] for more! And just as I’ve heard her tell me of a few things about camp, I see her stand taller, more assertive, and proud to be able to go to camp. I see Kyleigha doing many great things in life, thanks to PTN for giving her the opportunity, our deepest thank you!”
As some of our associates are parents of children at the Pediatric Therapy Network, we were honored to not only learn more about the miracles they perform there every day, but to provide a financial donation to help them continue growing and aiding children with special needs.
