Phenomenex and Hach Come Together to Help WaterAid

Phenomenex and Hach face off in a football match to support WaterAid

It’s a mild summer night on 08. July, when the Danaher OpCo’s Phenomenex and Hach football (or soccer for the US folks) teams walked onto the battle field. The tension is thick and the anticipation high. The 9v9 football challenge being thrown by Hach players.

Even though the game is played to win, it was also organized to help raise money for WaterAid, an organization that is determined to make clean water, reliable toilets, and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. Only by tackling these 3 essentials, in ways that last, can people change their lives for good. Since 1981, they have empowered 25.8 million people with clean water and 25.1 million people with reliable toilets.

However, the other reason to play was to see who was the best football team!

Phenomenex arrived with a squad of 13, only to be outnumbered by Hach who managed to supply 18 players. But PHX only saw this as a challenge to overcome together! The game begins and PHX shows their power by taking a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half. But Phenomenex’s luck began to shift. ] The skies turned black and thick with clouds, turning the 2nd half into monsoon-like mayhem. The score quickly went from 2-0 to 2-3 during the second half.

However, PHX players found strength deep within them and rallied to glory, with the final whistle blowing at a score of 5-4 ending with Phenomenex taking the WIN! With their trophy lifted high in the air, no amount of rain could bring them down. A return match has already been suggested by Hach, though the PHX team may just enjoy the win a for a little while longer.

Mark Comber, Digital Marketing Communications Manager of Phenomenex, says that “despite a couple of painful injuries (one for each team), the match was played in a good (though occasionally feisty) spirit. It was a great opportunity to meet up with some of our new OPCO colleagues from Hach UK, but more so spending time away from work, in an environment which required complete teamwork.”

Great job Team PHX UK! Amazing win and for a truly outstanding cause. The target was to raise £1,500 for WaterAid, and they smashed the goal by raising £2,346.

See below for WaterAid’s impact on the world:

“Together we can unlock people’s potential with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. Without all three, people can’t live dignified, healthy lives. With all three, they can unlock their potential, break free from poverty, and change their lives for good.

With clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, children are born healthier. They get the chance to go to school, and grow up to become adults. Women and men get to earn a living. Whole communities start to thrive. It sounds normal and it should be.

In a world with so many competing priorities, WaterAid remains resolutely focused on tackling these three essentials because they transform people’s lives for good.”
